Earth Day Project Post #4: Significance

Welcome to the Modern Typewriter, a daily blog to discuss topics that can’t be answered easily, or are just some fun topics! Today is May 31st, 2010, Memorial Day, I’m Royce, and I’m here to conclude my Earth Day Project with the significance of wind power and wind turbines.

Wind turbines are slowly making that giant step from using nonrenewable resources like oil and gas, to using a more safer, greener resource, like wind.  Wind power is one of the many ways that can be considered ‘green power’. There is also solar power, hydropower, and biofuels! Now, I bet what’s running through your mind right now is why should we go with wind power over the other choices?

For one thing, the wind industry is BOOMING! For instance, the country of Denmark has almost all of their energy coming from Danish Wind Farms, farms filled with wind turbines. For another thing, once your wind turbine is built, the cost of energy is nothing, seeing how the wind is free.

Wind power will soon completely replace the nonrenewable resources of oil, gas, and coal. And hopefully, the world won’t wait to realize that once all of those resources are indeed gone.

Above is a picture of a wind farm off the coast of Denmark. Denmark also has wind farms on land, like the picture below.

The only difference between this wind farm and the ones in Denmark is this picture was taken right outside of Chicago, Illinois. That’s the only difference!

The use of nonrenewable resources such as oil, gas, or coal are contributing to global warming, and are slowly depleting our ozone layer. The use of wind power does not contribute to any type of pollution, so it definitely does not contribute to global warming.

The choice is clear. Wind power is the healthy, green alternative to fossil fuels. We know the problem. We know the solution. But for some reason, we aren’t taking the solution. It’s right in front of us. We need to use wind power in order to slow and eventually stop global warming.

Do you like wind power? What do you think about it? Feel free to leave a comment to express your opinion!

Remember, I’m Royce, and I would like to personally thank all of you for reading my posts for my Earth Day project. In writing these posts, I hope that I have raised at least some awareness about wind power, the healthy alternative to using nonrenewable resources. Once again, I’m Royce, and this is the Modern Typewriter, OUT!

The Modern Typewriter would like to honor those in the United States Military who serve and gave their lives to protect the freedoms we have. Thank you.
