Has Freedom Of Speech Gone Too Far?

Welcome to the Modern Typewriter, a daily blog to discuss topics that can’t be answered easily, or are just some fun topics! Today is January 7th, 2009, I’m Royce, and I’m here to talk about the Iraq War.

Currently, and for the past seven or eight years, there has been a war in the Middle East. Many have sacrificed their lives for their country. This topic played a huge role in the 2008 Presidential Election. One candidate wanted to pull our troops out of Iraq, while one did not want to pull them out. Many citizens did not wish to continue this war, so they voted for Barack Obama. Others thought of the saying, “The day we lose our will to fight is the day we lose our freedom.” and they voted for John McCain.

We just came across a video on the web that showed just hatred for the Armed Forces of America. They showed how liberal people can get, and how uneducated people are. The video is about a Marine Corps recruiting station opening in Berkeley, California, in March 2008. The new recruiting station put people in uproar, because they believe that with Marines volunteering and sacrificing their lives, they believe that the Marines are being trained for mass murder.

Really? Because we thought that they were being trained to protect your right to say that kind of nonsense.

“This video, all it did was show how uneducated those ‘Code Pink’ people were. The people say ‘Oh yes, it would be great if someone was defending our right for freedom.’ Where have they been since 1776? Our military has been defending our right for freedom since this country formed! It was really funny when that woman said that, because I just laughed. I mean, where has she been the last 233 years almost?” says Cody, a writer at the Modern Typewriter.

“Our military is full of the best people. They are incredible, and they are our heroes. Anyone that says that our military is trained for mass murder, go to Arlington National Cemetery, and then say they were trained for mass murder. For those of you who haven’t been, there are just rows and rows and rows of graves from our service men and women. The cemetery almost seems endless. All of those people gave their lives, and they have the nerve to say that they were trained for mass murder? Those people who say that should just either leave the country or live their life in complete shame.” says Melanie, another writer.

Arlington National Cemetery is located in Washington D.C. and is just an amazing sight. It takes your breath away and really makes you realize the sacrifice our country has made.

“The United States is a land freedom, people have the right to what they say. That’s freedom of speech. But it makes me sick to know what some people think of the military, who fights for that freedom for those people who talk bad about them. It makes shame come on everyone who doesn’t talk about the military in that way. It’s shameful for the entire country to know that organizations like ‘Code Pink’ is out there brainwashing the public into thinking that the military is trained for mass murder. It brings shame onto everyone in the country, it brings shame to our name. It brings shame to our record of honor and dignity.” says Anonymous.

So should we pull the troops out of Iraq? Do you think the troops are being trained for mass murder? What do you think? Leave a comment to express your opinion!

The day we lose our will to fight is the day we lose our freedom.
