Welcome to The Modern Typewriter, a daily blog to discuss topics that can’t be answered easily, or are just some fun topics! Today is May 24th, 2008, I’m Cory, and I am here to talk about the Eurovision Song Contest.
Currently happening in Europe, the Eurovision Song Competition is like American Idol in the United States. Each country selects a singer or band to represent their country best and then all of the countries compete. The winner will host the next year’s competition in their country.
This year, the contest is being held in Belgrade, Serbia. The participating countries are as follows: Alabania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia & Herz., Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, FYR Macedonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and the UK.
Europe has voted and narrowed down the selection to the finalists. The finalists are: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, and the UK.
The Modern Typewriter team recently took a vote on their favorites, and well, their not so favorites. So here are top five favorites.
Now, here are the top five that the Modern Typewriter think are the best. You can see the videos of these artists perform their song at www.eurovision.tv
Now, time for the not-so favorites. These are the ones we found not interesting, or just plain old boring.
- United Kingdom
- San Marino
Okay, you’ve seen our favorites, who we think is the best, who we think is uninteresting, and that means there is only one left: the ones who are just plain bad!
- Ireland (it’s a turkey!)
What are your favorites? What are your not-so favorites? Who do you think is going to win? Leave us a comment to express your opinion!
“In my opinion, I really like Latvia. The performers (Pirates of the Sea) perform really well, and their song is cool, it really caught my attention. And the fact that the song is actually Swedish and they are representing Latvia is kind of interesting.” says Royce, a writer at the Modern Typewriter.
Here is the video of Pirates of the Sea who represent Latvia, and sing Wolves of the Sea.
Remember, I’m Cory, and this is the Modern Typewriter, OUT!
