Welcome to the Modern Typewriter, a daily blog to discuss topics that can’t be answered easily, or are just some fun topics! Today is April 28th, 2008, I’m Royce, and I am here to talk about global warming and how we can stop it.
First of all, let’s make sure you know what global warming is. Global warming is where the Earth is becoming increasingly warmer, causing the melting of glaciers, and very hot temperatures around the world. Now, what causes this?
Well, this is caused by the Sun’s heat rays go to Earth, and when normally most of this heat escapes and bounces back, now most of it stays on Earth, because of a very thick atmosphere. This thick atmosphere is caused by the burning of coal, cars, and many other causes.
When you use your car, it releases carbon into the air. This thickens the atmosphere, therefor, trapping the heat the Sun sends to Earth in the atmosphere. While making the Earth hot, this melts glaciers and kills polar bears.
This “hotness” will continue to increase until whenever. So now is the time to act. But I know what you are thinking! What can we do?
Well, we can find an alternate source of energy for use in cars, and for electricity. Some examples are hydro power, wind power, solar power, biofuel, and geothermal energy.
Hydro power is the energy made with water. Dams are built to control water so then they can generate electricity. The downside is that this kills fish and damages natural habitats and lakes/rivers.
Wind power is obviously made with wind. Wind turbines are built so the wind turns them, and they generate electricity. The problem with these is that they can kill birds/bats and they take up a lot of space.
Solar power is a really cool source of energy. You solar panels and place them on different buildings and they absorb the energy the Sun sends down. But, they don’t work at night, and bad weather can effect how much electricity you get.
So what do you think about global warming? Should we stop it? Or ignore it? Leave us a comment to express your opinion!
