A Memorial For A Bear?

Welcome to the Modern Typewriter, a daily blog to discuss topics that can’t be answered easily, or are just some fun topic! Today is January 26th, 2008, I’m Stephanie, and I am here to discuss a current event, a memorial for a bear that fought in World War 2.

On the BBC News website, we found an article that explains a current event in Scotland. A campaign has launched for whether or not they make a memorial for “Soldier Bear” as the soldiers called him.

The article is located here.

His name was Voytek, and yes, he was a bear.  He was found in the middle east by Polish troops and was taken in, in 1943. Then, he became a mascot for Polish troops.

Why do you think that this bear was very important to the Polish troops, other than helping them out?

Remember, I’m Stephanie, and this is the Modern Typewriter, OUT!
